Standard Guitar Tuning Drop D is one of the most commonly used alternate tunings for guitar.
To tune your guitar to drop D you simply lower the 6th string (Low E) to a D.

Drop D Tuning Once you have lowered the 6th string from E to D your guitar is tuned to drop D - shown to the right.
This tuning creates a rich D chord - play a normal D chord, but strum all six strings.
